Description
Green played a hard-nosed backend for the Boston Bruins before an infamous stick swinging incident tamed his on-ice ways. During an pre-season game ahead of the 1969-70 season he and St. Louis Blues forward Wayne Maki engaged in a stick fight in which Green’s skull was fractured and he missed the entire season. Both he and Maki were criminally charged for assault. Green came back for the 1970-71 season and resumed his career, albeit with a little less aggression than before. Maki unfortunately was diagnosed with brain cancer and died in 1974 at the age of 29. Green won a Memorial Cup, two Stanley Cups as a player, four more as an assistant coach in Edmonton, one as co-coach, and three WHA championships.
