1954-55 Topps #38 Hal Laycoe (PSA 7)

$200.00

Description

Gorgeous card of Laycoe, who was best known as the guy who started the infamous March 1955 Richard riot. Laycoe high-sticked his former teammate and the Rocket retaliated with a stick to the head of the Bruins defenseman. In the ensuing mayhem Richard broke his on Laycoe and knocked out a linesman. League president Clarence Campbell suspended for the remainder of the season. Two days later Campbell attended a game at the Montreal Forum and the crowd went crazy. He was pelted with debris, and eventually attacked physically by an irate fan before a tear gas canister was set off. The game was called and the crowd filtered out into the streets where they would riot, breaking store windows, turning cars over, and setting fires.

Graded a sharp NM 7 by PSA!
