1960 – The Alan Freed Show – Pittsburgh, PA

$25.00

Description

Unused ticket from the Alan Freed Show at the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, April 22, 1960.  Freed was the first “rock n’ roll” DJ, parlaying his gig into a live event touring machine which featured multiple acts, back-to-back, on the same stage.  Some the biggest names in popular music participated in these often-frantic tours with this particular tour showcasing Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon, among others.  It’s interesting to note as well at this time that Freed was in a legal battle over the famous “Payola” scandal, and just weeks after this concert he and six other DJs were charged with taking bribes (pay for play) to give certain acts plenty airtime. He was also controversial for the fact he tirelessly promoted black performers at a time when racial segregation was rampant in the south.

Overall condition is NM
