Description

This ticket is for a star-studded event at the Syria Mosque, in Pittsburgh.  Berry Gordy’s Motown label was already established as a fertile hit-making machine, and the touring “revues” were packed with big name acts.  The October 30 show here included Marvin Gaye, Martha and the Vandelas, the Supremes (w/Diana Ross), the Spinners, and more.  Accounts of the show mention a rowdy crowd and several visits by local police.  Attendance was down for what normally would have been a sellout, with some pointing to the possibility the Supremes did not appear despite being on the bill.  Apparently, they were in Los Angeles for a movie appearance. Some reports have Stevie Wonder substituting.   *Please note the photo of the handbill is not included.
