Description

Gandil’s name lives in infamy as the ringleader of the 1919 “Black Sox” scandal for which he was banned for life along with seven others, including Shoeless Joe Jackson.  He was by all accounts a pretty intimidating individual who also earned paychecks as a heavyweight boxer and a boiler maker.  Despite his reputation, he was however, a pretty good ballplayer.  A solid hitter he was also one of the best first baseman of the Deadball years, leading American League at his position in put outs (1x), assists (3x), double plays (2x) and fielding percentage (4x) over his abbreviated 9-year major league career.

This one comes with a low pop Sweet Caporal 350-460/42 OP (factory overprint) back. This is 1 of 2 with 7 graded higher out of the only 15 examples graded by PSA.  To put the rarity into perspective those 15 represents a miniscule 2% of all Gandil T206s graded by PSA (729 total).
