Description
Gorgeous 19th century baseball card from the famous Allen & Ginter set, featuring infielder Joseph Mulvey. Mulvey broke into the big leagues in 1883 and was part of a bizarre incident early on when an enraged fan shot him in the shoulder after a game. He wasn’t the target, but nevertheless sustained the injury. He recovered and went on to play 12 years, posting some decent offensive stats. After his playing days he became a guard at Shibe Park in Philadelphia, and in 1928 he was found dead in the Phillies locker room, apparently succumbing to a heart attack sometime in the night.
Graded 2.5 GD+ with lots of eye appeal by PSA.
