Description

These 8 1/2 x 11 photo inserts were a promotion that ran in La Patrie newspaper in Montreal in 1927. Here we have, along with Howie Morenz, pre-WW 2’s biggest name in the hockey collecting hobby. Vezina of course is known today by the trophy bearing his name. He played with Les Canadiens from 1910 to 1926, never missing a game (328 consecutive starts) while leading the NHA/NHL in goals against seven times and finishing second another five times. He reached five Stanley Cups finals (winning twice) and was the first goalie in league history to record a shutout and an assist. This photo was issued posthumously as he died tragically from tuberculosis in March of 1926 and was replaced by Hall of Famer George Hainsworth, who is also found in this set.

Grades FR-GD with some edgewear that includes some creasing and two small horizontal tears (one of the left-hand border 1/8″ and one on the right side 1/4″), see hi-rez scans for detail.

Any Vezina material from the 1920’s is among the most prized hockey collectibles in the market.
