Very cool, authorized second printing “artist’s proof”, signed and numbered by artist Gary Grimshaw. This is #99 of only 125 signed AP’s. Grimshaw was the driving force behind the Detroit concert poster scene, in particular the shows held at the Grande Ballroom. Original Grande posters carry some high price tags, thanks to small print runs, legendary acts, and great artwork. This printing, and signed AP, represents a great opportunity to experience this iconic poster without having to shell out thousands of dollars.
This series of shows featured British power trio Cream at the height of their prowess, with a plethora of supporting acts, including high-energy rockers MC5 on Friday and the James Gang on Sunday. For the latter it is notable as at the last-minute guitarist Ronnie Silverman told the others he was leaving the band (apparently, he was drafted). The others, Joe Walsh, Dale Peters and Jim Fox) were forced to either perform that evening as a trio or lose their paycheck. They went on as a trio and ultimately found their greatest success as a three-piece in the following years.
Condition is NR.MT. Please note Gary’s signature is blotchy thanks to using a Sharpie pen on glossy paper stock.
