This is a second print poster from a March 1967 performance by The Doors, The Sparrow, and Country Joe & The Fish at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, California.
The Doors were just breaking out from the LA club scene with “Light My Fire” and “Break on Through” climbing the charts at this time. The Sparrow was a Canadian band that shortly would rename themselves “Steppenwolf”, and Country Joe and the Fish were a Bay Area band from Berkeley known for the hardcore psychedelia and political commentary.
Art by the eclectic Victor Moscoso, with his typically psychedelic approach. The is known as the 2nd printing “A”, printed shortly after the concert, with the white text used in the ticket strip at the bottom.
Condition is Near Mint, with sharp corners, no dings, pinholes or creases. A great piece to frame and display at a fraction of the cost of the skyrocketing originals. Important to note many of the 2nd prints of these early SF rock posters were printed just after or near the original concert dates themselves. So, the 2nd prints are in many cases just about as old as the originals, but sell for much less, which explains in a lot of ways their growing popularity among poster collectors.
