Gorgeous card from a great set! The 1933 Sport Kings set was issued by the Goudey Gum Co., famous for their baseball offerings. The multi-sport set included athletes from boxing, baseball, tennis, golf, and others, including hockey. Only four hockey players are represented, Howie Morenz, Ace Bailey, Ching Johnson, and Eddie Shore. Shore was the premier defender in the game at the time, and a true early NHL superstar. He was named a 1st team All-Star 7 times (plus one 2nd team selection) in 14 seasons, while winning the Hart Trophy as the league’s MVP an amazing 4 times. He was a nasty piece of business playing a hard-nosed game and being at or near the top of penalty minute leaders, particularly earlier in his career. This is a classic pre-war “must have”!
