1956 Topps #79 Sandy Koufax (SGC 5)

2nd Year Card!

Description

Very nice 2nd year Koufax, one of the hobby’s most collectible subjects. Koufax broke in with plenty of fanfare but took a few years to find his way. He did so after 1960. From 1961 until he retired in 1966, he won 3x Cy Youngs and an MVP award, while averaging 22-8 W-L record and 269 K’s/69 BB’s per season. During those peak years led the league in wins 3x, in ERA 5x, K’s 4x, IP 2x, CG x2, shutouts x2 and more. He won two World Series in 1963 and 1965, where he went 4-1 with 52 K’s and 8 walks over 42 IP, winning WS MVP awards both times. Injuries in his throwing arm forced him out of the game at the age of 30. 2nd year cards represent a great value, with rookie cards for stars like Koufax selling for significant multiples. Great price, major star, classic set!

Graded 5 EX by SGC.
