1960-61 Topps #59 Howie Morenz ATG (PSA 8)

$250.00

High-grade Morenz

Description

Morenz was the Babe Ruth of hockey, rising to prominence in the Golden Age of Sports, a period in the 1920’s when sportswriters elevated athletes to mythic proportions. Red Grange, Bobby Jones, Jack Dempsey and players like Howie Morenz were lauded in the sports pages. With radio in its infancy, newspapers were the only mass media and the writers created legends using wild prose and descriptions. Morenz was indeed the game’s biggest star, leading Montreal to 3x Stanley Cups and winning 3x MVP awards. He would die tragically of a coronary embolism shortly after breaking his leg in a game in 1937. With his pre-war cards fetching big dollars, this is a great way to add a superstar to your collection without shelling out thousands. A superb example of his All-Time Great card from the 1960-61 Topps set.

Graded a bright, bold and outta-the-pack NM-MT 8 by PSA!
